A Little About Me

I live in New York City with my rescue chihuahua and have always had a deep love for creativity and design. I tend to enjoy creative and artistic activities most while high, but I also love watching movies, cooking, eating, and enhancing everyday experiences—because, why not? I grew up in a rural area, so I feel just as comfortable on a lake or boat as I do at the beach—both favorite places to unwind. I know it’s a bit of a stoner cliché, but hey, it’s my truth.

My Path to Creating Mantelpiece

Before founding Mantelpiece, I built a diverse career in marketing and partnerships within service journalism. My work at Wirecutter, Business Insider, and InsideHook has kept me constantly surrounded by product testing and reviews, giving me a sharp eye for spotting products that stand out.

Over the years, I developed a knack for identifying items that truly elevate a space. I’ve even shared some of my favorites, like home upgrades and outdoor setups. This hands-on experience helped me develop a strong understanding of what makes a quality product, whether for personal use or home decor. When I set out to create my own product, I knew it had to meet the same level of scrutiny applied by my industry peers—experts who value both design and quality.

My Decade of Cannabis Experience

I didn’t start smoking until my 20s, but cannabis quickly became an important part of my lifestyle. As someone who identifies as neurodivergent, I found that cannabis helped me focus, quiet my mind, and enhance my creativity. I believe strongly in the power of the plant, not just for wellness, but for its ability to unlock new ideas. In fact, I was high when I first thought of Mantelpiece!

After years of working around great products (check out my review of the Pax Plus versus Pax Mini), I always wanted to create something of my own. Nothing ever felt quite right until I saw the gap: smoking accessories that offered the same level of refinement and design I sought for my own home. I knew I could create something that wasn’t just functional but elevated the aesthetic of a space. That’s how Mantelpiece was born.

The Design Process

Creating Mantelpiece wasn’t easy. In fact, I went through many, many iterations to get it just right. It all started with something as simple as paper wrapped around a Session bong, evolving through different shapes and designs. I spent a lot of time figuring out exactly what I liked, and it took three years of development to get from the initial idea to launch. I went through three different prototypes before settling on the final version of The Vase. Now, it’s patent-pending because I want to protect both its utility and design.

Via our US-based sourcing company, we maintain direct communication with the factory, and our consultants have visited the facility to verify these standards firsthand.
